Chelsea Beat AFC Wimbledon And Reach The Third Round Of EFL Cup

The 30th night of August in England was very exciting and joyous for fans of Chelsea that got a victory of 2-1 over AFC Wimbledon and entered the third round of the EFL Cup. AFC Wimbledon, the visitors, started playing the match brightly. And it was the 18th minute of the match when the visitors took a lead over Chelsea, the hosts, through a penalty. Robert Sanchez, Chelsea goalkeeper, tried to punch away a free-kick by jumping into Harry Pell. After striking the ball down Sanchez’s goal center, James Tilley of Wimbledon made no mistake.

Due to an additional penalty, Chelsea level came on the stroke of half-time. Alex Pearce made Noni Madueke come down and the winger’s self dusting made Alex Bass go the wrong way. Chelsea had to bring on some of their big names from the bench if they have a complete contract signing with Cole Palmer of Manchester City. They will have taken their spending in his transfer window into region of£400 million.

Enzo Fernández, £105 million midfielder, did the turnaround and picked up on Alex Bass’ poor clearance to fire in from the outside area. However, Chelsea did their best to reach the next level of the ongoing EFL Cup.

Johnnie Jackson’s side were not subdued for their Stamford Bridge trip. Both sides had 63 places between them. However, AFC Wimbledon could cause problems to Chalsea with their organized long balls and set-pieces. Even having a lead over Chelsea, Wimbledon were strikers instead of being comfortable. It seemed when Levi Colwill interrupted Josh Davison who was in the way of a Wimbledon counter-attack. Chelsea's draw level happened due to Madueke who had been the brightest attacking outlet of the Blues.

The performance of his team made Mauricio Pochettino unhappy. However, before the finishing of the first half, he went down the tunnel for a couple of minutes. After some good work on the box edge, Ali Al Hamadi, who entered into the match in the second half, had a shot blocked made by Axel Disasi.

Fernandez and Malo Gusto were eager enough to avoid a cup upset. So, Chelsea brought them to the field. Fernandez’s effort from around 30 yards out brought Chelsea into the third round with his first goal for his team. Due to Conor Gallagher’s fire from the inside area, Chelsea took more time to get a win over AFC Wimbledon. However, the match could be more convenient for Chelsea.
